Adalat Oros is in a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers. Adalat Oros relaxes (widens) your blood vessels (veins and arteries), which makes it easier for the heart to pump and reduces its workload. Adalat Oros is used to lower hypertension (high blood pressure) and to treat angina (chest pain).
Nifedipine is also used sometimes to treat migraine headaches, Raynaud's syndrome, congestive heart failure, and cardiomyopathy. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this drug for your condition.
Directions
As a rule the tablets are swallowed whole with a little liquid, independently of meals.
The tablets must not be chewed or broken up! Do not halve the tablet.
Depending on the clinical picture in each case, the basic dose must be introduced gradually. In patients with impaired liver function, careful monitoring and, in severe cases, a dose reduction may be necessary.
Unless otherwise prescribed, the following dosage guidelines are recommended for adults:
For coronary heart disease
1 Adalat OROS 30 tablet once daily or 1 Adalat OROS 60 tablet once daily
For hypertension
1 Adalat OROS 30 tablet once daily or 1 Adalat OROS 60 tablet once daily
Contra-Indications
Adalat OROS must not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to nifedipine.
Nifedipine must not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Nifedipine must not be used in cases of cardiovascular shock.
Nifedipine must not be used in combination with rifampicin because efficient plasma levels of nifedipine may not be obtained due to enzyme induction.
